Apple released its new iOS 8 for public last week. The new version of the mobile OS for the iPhones & the iPads carries over 150 new features – which are more like a set of enhancements than an overhaul , which we had seen during the iOS 5 & then during iOS 7 redesigned releases. See full compiled list of iOS 8 features on TechZoom.
Some of the important features of the new iOS 8 includes; third-party keyboards, relaying SMS messages, notifications, phone calls & apps to another iOS or Mac OS devices through Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity. It also features working on documents through multiple devices as required, using the new iCloud Drive. The basic free plan comes with a 5GB cloud storage while, more storage options available at extra cost.
This new mobile OS is not 100% full-proof & many users are facing major issues of fast battery drain, poor network reception, Wi-Fi signal reception, frequent crashes & reboots; depending upon the device & country where the phone is used. Critical issues will get resolved in over the few days.
How to install?
There are 3 ways how you can approach installing the new iOS 8 on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 7 (any version). The size for the installation is somewhere between 1.1GB to 1.9GB depending upon the device you’re using.
You can try updating from the Over-The-Air which is the easiest way or downloading inside the latest iTunes software or downloading the IPSW file for your device on your PC/Mac & then updating the device through latest iTunes.
Pre-requisites & supported devices
For some reason if the downloading iOS 8 fails several times, you can switch to the alternative methods mentioned above. Note that, to be able to successfully install, you need a 5GB free space on your iPhone or iPad for extraction & installation. It will not allow you to download if the free space prerequisite is not met.
During the installation, you might see any of the most common error messages such as Error 3194, Error 17 or “The device isn’t eligible for the requested build”, Error 3000 – 3020, Error 3100 etc. These errors occur due to various reasons & could be due to a bad USB cable, bad connectivity or badly configured anti-virus software.
iOS 8 is supported on almost all the new devices. Here is a list for your reference.
