Merkle cites the spike in COVID -19 cases in regions hosting other conventions and low vaccination levels as specific reasons for moving the event online. “It’s a horrible time to host an event. I wish it wasn’t. A live AGDQ would be a shell of its former self,” continued Merkle.
Recently, PAX West was held in person, although the event had very few attendees. New York Comic Con is scheduled to run from October 7 to 10 and will require proof of vaccination from everyone over the age of 12 and proof of a negative COVID-19 test from everyone. under 12 years old.
Quick Finish Games organizes a series of sprint events, like AGDQ, to raise money for various charities. In the past, the company has donated proceeds from its events to Doctors Without Borders, the AbleGamers Foundation, and the Cancer Prevention Foundation. The most recent GDQ event, Flame Fatales, raised $127,012 for the Malala Foundation. Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 will run from January 9 to 16.
