Apex Legends Developer Respawn Entertainment revealed that they will be removing the tap tap feature in the game’s upcoming 10.1 patch. A popular movement technique used by highly skilled PC players to spin and go faster by repeatedly pressing the forward scroll key or linking the motion to the mouse wheel. Respawn has promised to provide more information about this decision in the 10.1 patch notes, but players have been very upset about the change.
After much deliberation and debate, we have decided to remove tap tap feature from @playapex in patch 10.1.
Our excuses: It’s inaccessible, lacks readability/reactivity, and is exacerbated by portability.
Subsequent patch notes will include a more detailed note on this.

Tap-strafing is an advanced move technique that advanced players use to jump onto other players. Perform the technique correctly including sliding, jumping and stretching at the same time, as well as binding the Move Forward command to the mouse wheel. Since strip touch requires multiple keys to be pressed at once, as well as additional input provided by the mouse, this is not possible with a controller.
One of Apex Legends‘the biggest update is cross-play, which means PC and console players can play together and against each other. Even if aim assist is granted to console players due to the relative precision of the controller, it seems Respawn believes tap-strafing gives PC players too much of an edge in matches.
The fan response was quick and powerful. Highlights Top live streamer nokokopuffs bluntly replied into the tweet, saying: “Absolutely the worst decision ever made.” NRG members and streamers Rogue also replied, asking Respawn to “change this decision”. Both tweets have thousands of likes and most of the other tweets seem to complain about how console players get help with their gameplay but PC players have been stripped of the tap-strafe advantage.
While some agree with the decision, the most frequent reaction seems to be anger, with fans debating whether tap-strafing is really an “elevating” move. . Respawn says that the technique is “inaccessible, lacks readability/counterattack, and is exacerbated by mobility”. With high cell octane is max Legend is often chosen right now with a big margin, it looks like Respawn is looking to undercut other motion-based advantages.
