The long wait Apex Legends Mobile is finally set to launch in May. Although the game doesn’t have a set date, developer Respawn has confirmed new details about the title.
Apex Legends Mobile not a port of the popular battle royale game. Respawn emphasizes that it’s a completely standalone experience designed with mobile in mind. The developer has been testing the game in a series of betas around the world over the past year, but it only officially opened around this month.
During a press event, Respawn confirmed that the game will have some new modes “exclusive” to the title. The team didn’t reveal what those modes are or whether they’ll be included at launch, but the announcement reaffirms that the release doesn’t just compress the main game into a mobile version.
The game will also not feature all content from the original game at launch. A character select screen shows a stripped down list of old favorites like Pathfinder and Bangalore. The team also noted that the original map of the original game, Kings Canyon, has been remade for the mobile version.
The update comes as Apex Legends prepares to launch another new season, titled Saviors. The update will bring a new hero to the game, as well as changes to the Storm Point map, which will have a dead kaiju crustacean in the middle of it. Those changes don’t seem to come Apex Legends Mobile at this time.
