Ubisoft revealed Avatar: Pandora’s Border at the Ubisoft Forward E3 press conference. The company showed a cinematic trailer featuring aerial combat between the soldiers and residents of Pandora, exploring in a large, lush world and a number of unique monsters, characters and mounts. Based on the James Cameron movie, the game is powered by Ubisoft’s Snowdrop Engine. The game launches in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Stadia, and Luna.
Ubisoft says that the game will feature a “new, standalone story” outside of the existing Avatar universe, although the trailer appears to show some familiar faces. Players will assume the role of Na’vi and explore the Western Frontier region of Pandora. The trailer features multiple shots of the planet’s beautiful environments, many of which will be familiar to audiences. The trailer also shows Pandorans riding on various creatures, suggesting that mounts can play a role in world travel.
The trailer was light on combat, but one segment showed what appeared to be an army of human invaders landing on the lush alien planet. Characters fly over various winged creatures and dodge enemy gunfire, which might suggest a mechanized aerial combat (or at least travel). The trailer ends with a look at the massive world of Pandora, igniting excitement and discovery.
Avatar: Pandora’s Border was first announced in 2017, according to Kotaku. Although this is not the first video game to appear since Avatar universe, fans hope it will at least be better than James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. Pandora’s Border will be released in 2022.
