Over the past few months, Call of Duty: Warzone has undergone a number of significant changes – most of which make much-needed quality of life improvements. For example, the scary gas mask animation will no longer interrupt your final moments of a certain match, and the last Ghost perk has been nerfed. As part of the April 2022 Season 3 update, Raven Software reduced the power of many of the game’s best snipers, removing the ability to eliminate a single headshot within a certain distance. .
While this change may seem odd at first, it’s certainly a welcome addition. Not only does it add more viable weapons to the mix, but it also lowers your chances of getting knocked down with no reaction time. The new changes are actually a bit more complicated than you might expect, but that’s great news for Battlefield overall.
Sometimes I’m good at sniping in Warzone. Love this Season 3 update! pic.twitter.com/1gu6oXWbK7

Previously, light snipers like the Swiss Kar98k, SP-R 208 and K31 dominated Battlefield meta, allowing players to quickly infiltrate and take out a hit on target. Sure, it takes a lot of skill to pull off this, but with the way it allows you to instantly knock down your opponent in one hit, that puts anyone on the other end at a disadvantage. All it takes is one well-timed shot to take someone down in an instant, which is tough to deal with, especially since these snipers offer a fast rate of aim (ADS).
After the Season 3 update, many top snipers only hit one kill in certain range, allowing the heavier rifles to shine without completely destroying the viability of the types. weapons like Kar98k, SP-R or Swiss.
Courtesy of Call of Duty YouTuber JGOD, the chart above shows the new one-hit-kill potential of the game’s top snipers, with each column representing 10 meters. Eg, Modern War Kar98k can now hit a killer hit within 52 meters or so. For matches that go beyond that range, the player now needs an extra headshot to knock the player down. Likewise, the Pelington 703 can now only do one hit within 70 meters, although this is significantly better than most other fast-paced snipers in the game.
Below is a breakdown of the maximum damage range for snipers based on JGOD’s chart.
|Weapons||Maximum damage range||Shoot to kill within maximum damage range|
|Kar98k (Modern Warfare)||52 meters||One|
|SP-R 208||45 meters||One|
|Pelington 703||70 meters||One|
|Switzerland K31||45 meters||One|
|Type 99||55 meters||One|
|Kar98k (Vanguard)||47 meters||One|
|LW3 – Tundra||45 meters||One|
|Anti-tank rifle Gorenko||Infinite||One|
|Rytec AMR||98 meters||Two|
You’ll notice some heavier snipers don’t get nerfed. These are rifles like the HDR, AX-50 and ZRG 20mm. This is a big deal, as it finally gives players a reason to use these weapons, which have previously outperformed the likes of Kar98k and Swiss. From a balance perspective, this makes a lot more sense, providing plenty of pros and cons across a multitude of options. That’s why a bulky sniper rifle like the HDR does more damage than a light rifle like the SP-R 208. This balance shift has been around for a long time, driving the meta to diversity. and richer.
The good thing about this update does not mean that light sniper rifles are obsolete. If you’re within max damage range, you can still take a single kill – it’ll be harder to do so. For those who enjoy playing on Rebirth Island, a smaller map that is more conducive to close-range skirmishes, you’ll find Kar98k, Swiss, and SP-R still doable. Meanwhile, players on Caldera can still secure long-range elimination with heavier snipers, which makes it a win-win for many players.
Now that the sniper meta has changed dramatically, you’ll probably need to revisit your custom payloads to replace them with other rifles since Season 3. The standout sniper now is the 20mm ZRG. , one Cold War The rifle still has a relatively good ADS rate, high bullet velocity, clean looking optics, and the ability to kill enemies with a single shot at any range. Even so, the ZRG doesn’t feel overwhelming, as it is a lower-maneuverable weapon with a small six-round ammunition base. However, this sniper feels balanced against the Kar98k and Swiss as it is slower but more powerful.
Besides, the Pelington 703 also stands out as a fair mid-range weapon that can destroy the enemy in just one shot at a range of up to 70 meters. On Caldera this might not work, but considering it can be customized to provide competitive ADS speeds, Pelington currently works well on Rebirth Island.
