The best thing about the time loop is remembering what you did wrong and correcting your mistakes. The worst part of a time loop is starting from scratch every time. Thankfully, in Deathloop, Colt can save his weapons, jewels, tablets, and upgrades to stock up on an arsenal of Residuum Infused gear. He can’t stand up to Blackreef’s eight Visionaries if he has nothing but that rusty LIMP-10 from the beach.
Here’s how to save your weapons and gear between rounds in Deathloop.
How does infusion work in Deathloop?
Among the necessary Deathloop tips and tricks is to unlock the Infusion. You’ve seen these glowing objects scattered all over the Blackreef, and if you haven’t unlocked Infusion, you can’t interact with them. These items contain Residuum which is, in short, the only material that powers the Time Loop. You’ll use Residuum to drive Colt’s gear and carry it between rounds. So how do you unlock Infusion in Deathloop?
How to Unlock Infusion in Deathloop
Before you can start your Visionary killing game, follow the main storyline until you unlock an Arsenal Lead called Ubiquity. This lead will take you to Wenjie’s lab at the Complex. Colt will learn a lot from exploring Wenjie’s lab, but he’ll have to be careful when trying to kill every Wenjie. Since there is no “main Wenjie”, you cannot run down to her quarters and kill her.
However, when you complete this mission, you will unlock Infusion, thus thrusting you into the actual game. Now you don’t have to worry about finding new weapons every loop. Weapon jamming is also a thing of the past, as the better tier weapons you’ll now find and use will never get stuck.
Deathloop’s Mechanical vacuum works similar to Dark souls’ hemostatic mechanic. However, Deathloop easier to forgive. When Colt dies (and rewinds), he will have to return to his body and retrieve the Residuum he was carrying. If he dies permanently and resets the loop, all that Residuum will be lost. He can die a second time and return to both bodies to take any leftover Vacuum he brings with him, so don’t be upset if you don’t return to your first death site.
You will pass items from inside Colt’s tunnel (between times of the day) and when you return at night (before the loop resets). Residuum doesn’t switch between loops, so make sure to spend what you have on any items you want to keep. Once in Colt’s tunnel, go to the loading screen and select Gear transmission.
Anything marked with an hourglass icon will be lost when the loop resets unless you use it. Each item has a different Vacuum cost based on rarity, with The highest priced panels are 10,000 Residuum panels each. Thankfully, each dropped Visionary will earn you 10,000 Residuum, so you can always use their Slabs when you pick up a new slab.
Highlight the item you want to Cast and then hold NS. You can also sacrifice items to harvest their Residuum. Since you cannot equip the same Character twice, you should sacrifice all your duplicate equipment. Press L2 to sort your menu by newest, effect, quantity, cost or value. Sorting by newest puts items that require an Infusion (marked with an hourglass) at the top. Sorting by number will make finding duplicates much easier.
Visionaries are your main source of Residuum in Deathloop. They drop 10,000 Vacuum when killed, but that number increases to 11,500 when you equip the Gold Harvest Character Outfit, increasing your Vacuum by 15%. Initially, make sure to kill Harriet every morning in Karl Bay. You’ll also earn upgrades for her Nexus Slab, which is the best Slab in the game.
Once you’ve learned about Charlie and Fia’s secret meeting place, use it to reach a minimum 20,000 Residuum and earn upgrades for Shift and Havoc Slabs. While Havoc isn’t all that useful, unlocking Charlie’s Shift Slab upgrades will make life easier in the late game.
Make sure to collect every Residuum source you come across while exploring Blackreef. You will not harvest this way once you have accumulated an arsenal. However, harvesting Residuum from glow items is very useful in the early game.
Finally, make sure to sacrifice all of your Duplicate Character Jewels and any Weapon Jewels you don’t plan to use. You’ll start each loop with a rare Spring Heeled Character Trinket (double jump outfit), which can be sacrificed for an additional 2,000 Residuum per loop. Once you hold square to sacrifice an item, you can press NS about everything else you want to sacrifice.
If you accidentally sacrificed the wrong item, don’t worry. Deathloop There is a built-in failsafe. You must confirm the sacrifice of all items by holding NS above Sacrifice Item at the bottom right of the screen. Press Circle to cancel the sacrifice and reset everything in the menu.
