After disappointing fans at BlizzCon 2018 with the announcement of Diablo Immortal, Blizzard has come to BlizzCon 2019 preparing to show off Diablo 4. Since then, we’ve seen a few trailers, some concept images, and a couple of lengthy game demos. BlizzCon 2021 has provided some more information, including a look at a new class, but we’re still waiting for some key gameplay-related details. There’s no official release date yet, and Blizzard says the new game needs a lot of development time before it hits the market.

Antiques have been replaced in Diablo 4. Instead, players will earn consumables that allow them to upgrade non-Legend weapons to Legendary status. The idea is to allow players to continue playing with a weapon they like without having to drop it for a more powerful item that could offer a different style of play or aesthetic.
Blizzard is also reworking the inventory system in the hope that you won’t have to sort items around and try to free up more space.
In their latest quarterly update, Blizzard has also provided details on how character customization will work in the future. Diablo 4. According to the post, players will be able to customize their skin color, hair, tattoos, and more. Finally, we learned some new information about how stats and skill trees work. Blizzard has introduced a huge new skill tree for players to navigate as they level up their characters. Included on the tree are buttons that will unlock new skills, improve skills, and Passive Points – which can be used to gain other skills and passive attributes. According to Blizzard, you’ll only be able to unlock about 40% of trees with any given character, meaning you’ll need to plan your build carefully before assigning points at each level. This also means that no two players will share the same stats and there is a degree of flexibility built into the system.
Witches have a second system to deal with in addition to the skill tree, called the Enhancement System. This feature allows them to turn an active skill into a passive skill – instead of putting it in the action bar, you’ll put it in the Enchantment Slot. This will then grant you a new passive skill or an attribute boost, although you will no longer be able to cast active spells during combat.
Three new stats have also been revealed by Blizzard:

As for the enemies, Blizzard has described them as part of a “family”. If PvP is your goal, you’ll want to go to specific areas known as the Fields of Hatred. These areas are where no one is safe and anyone can fight and kill any other player. Why come here, other than testing your personality against others? The monsters here will drop items called Shards of Hatred. If you manage to bring these to the altar and clean them, you can exchange them for unique items that can only be purchased with them. But if you die before you can withdraw, you lose everything.
With the game still so far away, it would be strange to hear any details on post-launch content. That being said, it’s almost a guarantee that Diablo 4 will be extended similarly to its predecessor. Campaign quests, biomes, classes, and bosses are all likely to appear in the game’s future, but at least for now, we’ll have to wait until the game is near completion to hear about the plan for the game.
