Sony skipped E3 this year, leaving a crater in this summer’s video game promo season. While the company has done smaller streams based on big headlines every few months, it’s not quite the same as getting an entire presentation full of big announcements. Fortunately, Sony decided to be late to fashion. Today’s PlayStation Showcase stream is essentially an E3-sized presentation filled with the sorts of huge announcements we were missing back in June.
OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. The stream has definitely shown a lot of trailers for upcoming games like Forspoken and Deathloop, but not exactly shocks until its final minutes – but it’s a thrilling couple of minutes! We got our first look at God of War Ragnarok, shocking Spider-Man 2 reveal and even more surprising superhero news in the form of Marvel’s Wolverine. While the show was lightly screened on the day of its corporate release, it certainly set the stage for the next few years for a busy PS5.
