E3 is off to start the fun – if not leaking -. The first day of the event revolves around Ubisoft, which holds its annual keynote. The Ubisoft Forward presentation is a digital version of its regular theatrical show, complete with new announcements and dancing.
The biggest games of the show are Rainbow Six Extraction, a new alien co-op shooter, and Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope, leaked before the presentation. The stream reveals the release dates of some previous Ubisoft titles that have been delayed due to the pandemic, such as Riders Republic. Also a shocker: A new open world game based on James Cameron Avatar. Here’s everything we’ve seen throughout the show.
Ubisoft is making an Avatar video game
There was only one real surprise throughout the show. Ubisoft shocked gamers with a first look at a Avatar: Pandora’s Border, a game based on the infamous James Cameron film franchise. The beautiful trailer showcases a huge open world and lots of action. Not much is known about the game at the moment, but Ubisoft says the game will be out in 2022 (sounds ambitious).
Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope Coming to Switch
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle receiving the sequel. Ubisoft revealed Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope, will be coming to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022. The news leaked a few hours early as a website of the game went live, seemingly by accident.
The sequel takes the game into space as Mario and his friends jump from planet to planet to save Sparks. These give players new abilities, adding a new twist to the original’s tactical gameplay. The game features nine characters, including new additions like Rabbid Rosalina.
Rainbow Six Extraction is a complete departure series
Long delayed Rainbow Six Extraction (previously with subtitles Isolation) finally made its official debut at the show. Exploit will premiere on September 16 and will be the beginning of the series. A sci-fi shooter, revolving around a toxic alien species similar to the Venom symbiote in Spider-Man. The trailer shows players shooting down various creatures.
Exploit is a one to three player co-op game. It still uses the same operators and utilities as those seen in Rainbow Six Siege, but only in a very different context. It has a risk/reward system where the player needs to go deep into the containment area to save and unlock characters. The game will feature cross-play across all platforms.
Old Enemies Coming Soon in Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 made an appearance at the show after revealing its gameplay earlier this month. The biggest new thing is that the game is getting a season card that adds old enemies from the franchise’s past to the game. Vass Montenegro, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed will all be playable characters added to Yara via DLC.
Ubisoft also introduced a new cinematic from the game, which features another sinister look at Giancarlo Esposito’s character.
We take a new look at the sports game Riders Republic at the show, there is a Release date September 2. The game was originally set to release earlier this year, but was delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A gameplay trailer gave us our best look yet at the game, highlighting several modes and sports. In one particularly surprising part, players fly jets around a canyon. Players will collect stars throughout the game, which can be used to unlock new items. The game will feature 64 player races.
Rocksmith + closed beta today
As accidentally leaked by Gibson guitar company earlier in the day, Rocksmith+ is coming. Players can sign up for the game’s closed beta right now. Rocksmith+ is an update to the 2011 music game that allows players to plug real instruments into the game. The new game will use a subscription service model and provide players with more educational tools.
It will feature real-time feedback, allowing players to connect an instrument for “accurate note detection.” A riff looper allows the player to adjust the speed of the song. The game will have a large library of songs, which will be updated from time to time.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Siege of Paris is coming this summer
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is getting a new update this summer called The Siege of Paris. Ubisoft says it plans to support the game into its second year with more updates in the future. One-handed swords will also appear in the game soon.
Of course Just Dance 2022 is coming soon
It wouldn’t be a Ubisoft show without Just Dance, so naturally, Just Dance 2022 appear in the program. The latest installment in the series will premiere on November 4. The game will feature 40 songs, including soundtracks by Imagine Dragons, Ciara, and Todrick Hall.
