This November, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will come… again. Game journalists have had to write that sentence many times in the decade since the game’s launch. Skyrim originally landed on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in November 2011. In November 2017, Skyrim actually released twice, with a version for Switch and another for PlayStation VR. This year, Skyrim will be released in November again as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition. And those are just the times it was re-released in November, namely. Where else comes from? However, this year’s version of Skyrim unlike the rest – this one comes with mods.
But I will ask Skyrim owners and those who do not yet own the game to try something new. Instead of getting a list of 74 mods from Bethesda, get Skyrim on your computer and modify it yourself. It’s one of the most satisfying experiences in gaming – and I’m speaking from experience.
Modifications have been around for Skyrim almost the whole time it is available for purchase. In Nexusmods, the go-to site for mods on just about any single-player game out there, users have nearly a decade of mods at their disposal. Sure, there are a lot of bad mods (and a fair number of weird or pointless mods), but that makes up for in mods that can Skyrim a whole new feel and style.
The most basic mods now add armor and weapons to the game so there’s more to choose from than cactus gear. Some even add new missions and even brand new DLC-sized areas to the game, all completely free. If you have a powerful enough computer, high-res texture packs, and an ENB, which can change the game’s lighting, you can make the 10-year-old game look modern.
But adding content is only part of the modification Skyrim – the other part is to add the content that you want specifically. Want a mod that turns the moon into the word Majora’s mask? It can. Interior lights Skyrim? Sure. I love playing as a vampire but feel like Skyrim’s base system for them is very shallow. In the steps Vampires are better, a mod that completely overhauls the way vampires work in the game.
Skyrim – Anniversary Edition will include 76 mods or unofficial content from Creative Club. Bethesda even emphasizes three points: One allows the player to fish, another adds a survival mode, and another adds a quest. However, there are alternatives to all of this – you just have to look for them.
On Nexusmods you can find countless fishing mod, so take your pick. The site also has different options for doing Skyrim harder, including a game weather into account. For more content, there is a mod called Falskaar added over 20 hours of new gameplay. Everything that Bethesda is promoting Skyrim – Anniversary Edition already available in one way or another; it’s just a search.
Of course, mods are not for everyone. Modification experience Skyrim like building a computer. Maybe you’ll run into problems at some point, but once you get things working, you’ll have a sense of self-satisfaction. For those who can’t claim to try this, play Anniversary Edition – I’m sure it will be a great time. But if you want a really unique experience, something that you can pick and choose for yourself, because Ysmir’s beard just mods Skyrim ready.
