As part of Fortnite’s Season 5, week 12, you will have an additional series of challenges to complete. One of the more mysterious challenges puts you on the quest to find a family portrait from a shipwreck. Before you can achieve this goal, there are a few things you must do first. Like many challenges throughout season 5, this week’s episode goes in phases, meaning you have to finish the section first before moving on to the next.
In this case, you must complete stage 1-3, which requires you to deal damage within 15 seconds of dashing; visit Attractions, Gorgeous Gorge, and Mount Kay; and destroy the inflatable pipe people through the gas stations. Once you’ve completed those stages (in that order), you’ll be able to move on to stage 4, to find a family portrait from a shipwreck. In this tutorial we’ll show you where to find a portrait to complete a challenge with ease.

Where to find family portraits from a shipwreck
The first thing you should know about this challenge is that there are lots of portraits and wrecks you can visit to complete it. Check out the map above for reference (thanks, Fortnite.gg). Two main points are located on the west side of Sweaty Sands in the northwest part of the map or on the southeast side of the Catty Corner in the lower right part of the map. You’ll find portraits in each of these locations, but for the challenge, you just need to collect one of them.
With that in mind, you should choose whatever position makes the most sense relative to the Battle Bus path at the start. In our experience, the southeast area is the least busy, so give it a try if it’s on the way. And it’s best to do this during a Team Rumble match so you can continue if you die.

Once you get there, you’ll find a shipwreck (as mentioned in the challenge’s description), with tons of debris and items scattered about. Near the capsized boat on the south side of this area are several wooden crates, along with a portrait of a woman. Just interact with it by pressing square on PlayStation, X on Xbox, or Y on the Nintendo Switch to get credit for this challenge. At this particular location, there’s also a second portrait just north, so if you miss the first for whatever reason, you’ll have another option if you choose to land. here.
This will likely be one of the last challenges you complete for the week, as this is the last one that requires you to visit a mysterious location. Either way, once you interact with a portrait, you’ll earn 20,000 XP.
