Hades won Game of the Year for the 21st Game Developers’ Choice Awards along with two others. The nominees were announced at the end of April and all the winners were announced last night at the ceremony.
Along with winning Game of the Year, Hades also took home the awards for Best Sound and Best Design. Hades defeat Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushimaand Half-life: Alyx for the title of Game of the Year.
Developer Supergiant Games wasn’t the only studio taking home last night’s awards. The Last of Us Part II won Best Narrative at the awards ceremony, Half-life: Alyx won the Best Virtual Reality/AR Game and Ghost of Tsushima won the Audience Award, as well as the award for Best Visual Arts. Kinetic Games, developer of Phasmophobia, won this year’s Best Launch Developer Award.
Special awards were given to both Tom Fulp and Laralyn McWilliams. Tom Fulp, the creator of the Newgrounds website and co-founder of The Behemoth, has been awarded the Pioneer Award. Laralyn McWilliams was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. She is known in the industry as the creative director of Free Realms as well as the main director of Full Spectrum Warrior.
Day 21 Award voted by game developer This year the ceremony is held a little differently. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awards ceremony is entirely digital and streamed live on the internet. The awards ceremony was also streamed in conjunction with the Independent Games Festival Awards Ceremony.
