One of Battlefield 2042Its main selling point is that it is similar to Battlefield 4, but bigger – like the Texas version of bigger. On current generation consoles and PCs, Battlefield 2042 the game can hold up to 128 players, double the 64 player standard for every other large-scale shooter out there, including earlier entries in the Battlefield franchise. Of course, the inclusion of bots caused some problems at the surface level, but another became immediately apparent when I started playing the game: These bots are rock stupid.
Stupid AI shouldn’t drive
Subpar AI is nothing new to those who have played some of Dice’s recent games. Star Wars Battlefront 2The story mode, for example, is full of enemies that will either walk into walls, get caught in random pieces of geometry, or just stare at the player before being destroyed by a laser. But bad AI in single player story mode and bad AI in multiplayer are two very, very different things.
The former affects the mode in which the player is likely to spend about six to eight hours (at least for your average shooter games), while the latter can ruin the game mode. which means hours of players. Because the Battlefield 2042, bad AI doesn’t necessarily ruin the game’s multiplayer experience, but it totally left a bad taste in my mouth.
In my odd six hours of play Battlefield 2042During the beta, I saw the AI walk into walls, move unnaturally, don’t react when shot, and even line up to get shot. They do not provide any additional challenges to the game, instead serving as target for the player to shoot at with little or no risk.
Battlefield 2042Its AI is at its worst, though, when something inside their code seems to say, “beep-boop, time to take the helicopter or the tank”. I feel like it goes without saying, but if an AI can’t walk, can’t react to threats, and has problems hitting enemies, putting one on a vehicle will make that vehicle completely wasted. In 2042This is a pretty big deal. Vehicles can turn the tide of battles, and while some 2042Their vehicles have been nerfed, one being thrown because the AI can’t tell when it’s being hit can affect the player’s experience.
The difference of Halo Infinite
Admittedly, I might not be too upset by the shoddy performance of Battlefield 2042What if I don’t just hang out on weekends Halo Infiniteits own technical beta. While both games are still half-nine, Halo InfiniteAI’s blowing Battlefield 2042out of the water, making it jarring to immediately switch to the second type.
For those who haven’t tried any Halo Infiniteof betas, the AI in that game is impressive, acting more like a player than Battlefield 2042The soldiers are computer controlled in every way. InfiniteSpartan bots are aware of their surroundings, use the environment to their advantage, and by all means play like real players. Battlefield 2042Not sure what planet they are on.
The difference between the two games is basically night and day. In Halo Infinite, I don’t mind playing in the lobby with a lot of bots, because they are just as attractive as regular players. Stuck with 127 bots in one Battlefield 2042 on the other hand, the hallway sounds like the fastest way to relieve a headache.
What’s really unsettling about all of this is Battlefield 2042 released in about six weeks, on November 19th. That gives the game’s developers, Ripple Effect and Dice, just over a month to improve the game’s AI. Battlefield 2042 releasing already.
