Google I / O is home to many of the biggest corporate announcements, like news about the Pixel 3A, Nest Hub Max, and Google Duplex. Due to the pandemic, Google canceled this event in 2020, but now Google I / O is back – and this time, it free for all.

When is Google I / O 2021 and who can sign up?

Google I / O will be held May 18 to 20 and is free to all who want to attend. You can sign up now through Google I / O website. Although traditionally a developer conference, the event often contains important news that consumers are also interested in.

So what can you expect? That’s a big question, and the answer is: Lots. It’s been two years since the last event, which (hopefully) means a lot for Google fans.

What will Google I / O be like 2021?

This year’s Google I / O will be a completely virtual conference. The exact format of the event is unknown, but Google has announced some notable points.

The Consumer and Developer Keynotes will focus on both company and product related news, and can be viewed and reviewed on demand. If you missed Keynote, don’t worry – you can get to grips with it later. Technical Session will focus on product announcements as well as how users can apply any new features. There are no set dates for these; They will be disseminated during the entire I / O event.

There are also seminars and Ask Me Anything sessions, all of which will be interactive. You must reserve a period of time to participate. The workshops will be led by a designated instructor, while the AMA offers the opportunity to question experts about various Google products. If you are interested in connecting with other attendees, Google will host Meetups – as Google says, “casual, open, facilitated forum”. Again, you must register and make a reservation to attend.

One key attraction is Interactive Sandbox, part of an I / O adventure that lets developers try out Google’s latest products and features through a virtual hands-on experience. If you prefer a solo experience, Codelabs and the Learning Pathway are self-directed experiences that will help you adopt Google’s new technology.

What will happen from Google I / O 2021

There are very few rumors about what Google I / O 2021 might hold, but there is a lot of speculation.

Android 12

While you probably wouldn’t expect Android 12 to downgrade anytime soon, there’s a higher chance that Google will make an announcement regarding this OS. After all, the final release was Android 11 on September 8, 2020 – and before that, Android 10 was released on September 3, 2019.

It is safe to predict that Google will reveal some details about the upcoming version of the Android operating system and you can expect it around September of this year. After all, the developer preview was available for testing and feedback.

Google Pixel Buds A

As any major convention approached, rumors began to stir. That’s exactly true of Google I / O 2021, especially for the new version of Google Pixel Buds. In a marketing email, Google introduced a pair of olive-colored Pixel Buds that aren’t currently available.

This conversation has sparked the conversation and has led many to believe that Google may have another pair of wireless headphones in its lineup – possibly a lower-cost option to lure in other people with Current Pixel Buds.

Google Pixel 5a

Google has a history of releasing more budget-friendly versions of their current flagship phones, as seen in the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 4a. Right now, the Pixel 5 dominates Google’s product line, but there’s no alternative that costs less.

Google I / O would be the perfect time to announce the Pixel 5a as well as provide some info on its specs – be it an upgraded camera or even 5G compatibility. However, the second option could push the price of the phone much higher than its predecessor’s $ 350 price tag.

Update the Google app

App and software updates are the most likely at Google I / O. Some notifications may include details about new security features (particularly related to applications). provided by Google in the App Store and Apple’s new privacy regulations).

For example, there may be new updates to Google Translate, such as new language compatibility or real-time translation features. It’s possible to update any of Google’s major apps as well as more potential focus on Android Auto apps.

Updates to the Google Assistant

Google Assistant may also see major updates at Google I / O. Users can expect news on Assistant capabilities as well as possibly getting more information on voice recognition and interoperability. Enjoy more gear and new ways to control your smart home.

One potential announcement is the availability of Google Assistant in more countries globally. The smart assistant has been able to do a number of tasks, but Google has yet to grab the lead from Amazon.

New hardware for the Google Assistant?

Google is slow to release hardware updates for its smart devices; After all, it has taken Nest Mini years to see any updates. While it’s unlikely that a new smart device will be announced anytime soon after the launch of Nest Audio, it’s always likely that we see something to diversify the lineup. With Google Home Max no longer part of the product line, you may never know what the company might announce.

This is purely speculation, but there is a gap in the market that Google may encounter with its Nest Subwoofer. The Amazon Echo Sub meets that need on the Alexa side of the aisle, but Google has no comparable device. If the company wants to focus on sound fidelity, that’s one way to improve it.

Google I / O is just over a month away. There will definitely be more information as we get closer to showtime, so stay tuned. If you want to attend the event, go ahead and register while you still can. With luck, Google I / O could be a live event again next year – with broadcast events for those unable to attend.
