To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Xbox console, Microsoft teamed up with Adidas to create a special soccer cleat.
As you’d expect, the design of the Forum Tech sneakers is inspired by the hugely successful game machine, with the Xbox logo and green/black color scheme all included.
A promotional video (below), “recorded and edited to look like a straight-drawn ice skating reel from 2001”, includes footage of Halo: Combat Evolved – a launch game for the first Xbox – is being played on the original console, with new sneakers also featuring.
Commenting on its latest promotion, James Monosmith, Xbox CEO speak: “Adidas Forum Tech’s design balances nostalgia while embracing modern technology and is symbolic of how we look at our own Xbox history – celebrating the past 20 years and looking into the infinite future of the game.”
But before you grab your wallet and scream, “Just tell me how can I get these lovely sneakers on my feet,“We should point out that they will not be mass-sold, instead Microsoft will offer a limited-edition design as a contest prize or giveaway.
The good news, however, is that this is “just the beginning” of Microsoft’s partnership with Adidas, with additional sneaker designs coming over the next few months, all inspired by the latest brands. past and present generation of Xbox consoles and some of them will to sell together.
Gaming giants have long seen sneakers as the go-to outfit for attention-grabbing promotional efforts, with Sony, Nintendo and Sega also playing this card.
And this isn’t the first footwear effort from Microsoft’s Xbox division either, as it’s also teamed up with Globe to celebrate the release. Halo 4 years ago, in partnership with Nike created a pair of Xbox Air Jordans that glow in the dark.
