How to catch Ditto in Pokemon Go

Pokémon Go has allowed players to adventure around the real world searching for their favorite Pokémon. Now including Generation 6 Pokémon, Pokémon Go There’s still a very elusive little friend the player is trying to find – Ditto. Due to Ditto’s shape-shifting nature, it can appear in a variety of different Pokémon.

Unlike the main series, there’s no way to tell if a Pokémon is normal or whether a Ditto is in disguise until you catch it; you just need to hope for the best. That said, knowing what form a Pokémon Ditto might be will make the task of capturing one much easier. Since it’s one of the only Pokémon in existence, Ditto will be a significant addition to your collection. Whether you plan to use Ditto in battle or just show it off, here’s how you can find yourself in Pokémon Go.

What Pokémon Ditto could be?

How to catch Ditto in Pokémon Go

There is no specific way to get Ditto in Pokémon Go; it is a trial and error process. That said, if you stick to our tips, you’ll have a Ditto in your Pokédex before too long.

Ask the community

The best way to catch Ditto Pokémon Go By asking the fan base in your area where they’ve found. The game has a large international community, even in 2021. Wherever you are, you won’t have a hard time finding a Discord or Facebook group that is specific to your region (which is very helpful. Pokémon Go community map should help).

Since Dittos appear as regular Pokémon, you’ll be able to find them in areas where others have them. Of course, Pokémon spawning is constantly changing, but if you’re hunting and spot a bug in your local Discord group, you shouldn’t have too much trouble keeping an eye on Ditto.

Looking for Ditto candidates

Ditto will only appear as 15 Pokémon above, so if you’re trying to track down one, it makes no sense to waste your time on other Pokémon. If you are looking for Ditto, it’s best to set up your store in an area with a lot of Ditto disguised. That way, you can crush Weedles and Bidoofs all day until a Ditto appears.

Blended with bait and incense

If the community has failed you and you didn’t catch Ditto naturally, then it’s time to resort to items. Setting up a shop at PokéStop is your best bet. That way, you can drop Lure and Incense to attract Pokémon to your location in half an hour or so, depending on how many PokéCoins you have.

Although this is a brute force solution, it does work. If you can find a few others hunting Dittos in your area, you can gather your items for hours to mull over. While there’s no guaranteed Ditto drop rate, it shouldn’t be too hard to find one, especially if you’re spending some special items.

Transaction for Ditto

Here’s our final tip for getting Ditto in Pokémon Go, and for good reason. While you can technically trade for Ditto, it won’t count towards any tasks that require you to “catch” Ditto. To fulfill such a task, you will need to actually capture the Ditto, not just have it appear in your inventory.

Using Ditto in Pokémon Go

The main reason for chasing Ditto is to complete a Special Research quest or fill out your Pokédex. However, there is another advantage to having Ditto on your list, especially when it comes to gyms. Whenever you take Ditto into a battle in the gym, it will copy the first Pokémon you meet, mirroring its moveset.

Although effective for approaching some powerful moves quickly, your Ditto will retain its original CP, so you should stock up on potions before going into battle. You also can’t evolve your Ditto, like the base game. That said, you can level up your Ditto using candies and stardust.
