For the majority of players, there is no “end” for Minecraft. The only downsides are how creative a person wants to be, or how much time they enjoy setting their own goals. People have been and continue to create entire worlds according to their own designs, pushing the limits of what many think can happen in such a simple-looking game. However, from the very beginning, the game was created to repel players. At first, there were simple mobs, such as zombies and exploding climbers, but over time more diverse and challenging creatures were added. To keep the sense of exploration and adventure fun and tough, monsters are hidden in secret places you are not likely to come across by chance.
Ender Dragon marks the “end” of Minecraft in the sense that beating it will trigger the game’s credits. Of course, that doesn’t mean the game is over. You are returned to your world to enjoy a wealth of content that is still waiting for you. Defeating this giant dragon is a challenging job on its own, let alone the process of finding it. Here’s how you can find and kill Ender Dragon in Minecraft.
What to get before you find the Ender Dragon
The Ender Dragon is arguably the toughest boss of all Minecraft, with Wither being the only other boss who could get past it. It wasn’t rolled out into the game until the game’s official 1.0 launch, and after that, the game was played by so many people for hundreds of hours that it took the community a while to find it. As you might be eager to destroy this iconic beast, unprepared runs will only lead to a quick death.
Immediately take some time to build your weapons and armor. A full set of diamond armor is well worth the time to get, providing the best possible protection outside of Netherite. In terms of weapons, a diamond sword is simply the minimum you should have, but ideally you should enchant it for as much sharpness as possible. You’ll also play the role of an archer here, so get yourself a bow and arrows as much as possible. Or, if you can enchant the bow with infinity so that it never runs out of arrows, the better. The Ender Dragon, with its giant wings, is a primary target in the air, so you’ll have to unload tons of arrows throughout the fight.
Other tools you should have in your package include a trusty diamond pickaxe. Technically it doesn’t need to be diamond, but the faster you can break blocks in a tense fight the higher your odds of survival. Depending on what type of block you want to carry with you, what kind of block you should have in your inventory, you may also need a shovel if you pick up soil or sand. The pickaxe would still work on those materials, but apparently, a shovel tore through those materials much faster. If you roll with a pile of rocks, you can leave the shovel at home. Now that sounds strange, but should also get at least two or three buckets of water. Trust us, the latter will make sense.
Food will be your next priority. Hopefully you will earn a decent amount of gold by mining diamonds so you can craft at least a few golden apples. The recipe for these is just an apple surrounded by gold bars, and they’re the best food you can bring. They not only regenerate your health, but also give you 4 extra gold hearts to absorb more damage. If you can’t get much of that, supplement with reconstituted pills or cooked meat.
An optional item you can bring is a carved pumpkin to wear on your head. This is useful to avoid aggravating all Endermens that will wander around The End with the dragon. It makes aiming harder, plus fumbling for a helmet can be tricky, so use your judgment to decide if it’s worth it.
Find the End Gate
This dragon does not live in a normal world, nor does it live in The Nether with all the other dangerous mobs. He has his own domain called The End, and you will need to find and activate a special End Portal to get there. Unlike the Nether Portal, you can’t just collect documents and create one wherever you want. There are a few steps you need to take to find and open this portal, the first step is to collect Eyes of Ender.
Eyes of Ender can be created by crafting two difficult to collect items together. The first is the Blaze Rod, which you will use to create a Blaze Powder. Blazes are fiery-looking enemies unique to Nether, so you’ll need to create a portal for yourself. Once inside, like the underworld, you’ll be in a random position. If you’re lucky, you’ll spawn near a fortress, that’s where you can find Blaze spawners. Finding one of these is essential because as long as you don’t break the spawning nest, you can fight and kill Blazes as many times until you get as many Blaze Rods you want. For our purposes six is the minimum amount of bars you’ll need, but it never hurts to take a few more bars. You know, don’t let yourself get killed doing it.
Step two is just as difficult, and it’s about hunting Endermen for their Ender. You’re probably familiar with Endermen and how tough they can be if you’re not equipped to fight them, but also know how elusive they can be. Even when you find them, they tend to teleport. Find yourself a desert biome and wait until night to hunt them down. Each person has a 50% chance of dropping a pearl, and you’ll want at least 12 of them, but having more of them is always a safe bet.
Now, after converting your Blaze Rods into Blaze Powder (one bar is equivalent to two powders), you will have 12 powders and pearls. Combine the two together to form your Eyes of Ender. They have two functions: Find the port and open it. When you use the Eye of Ender from your hand, it will fly into the air in the direction of the Castle holding the portal. Simply let it fly, follow the direction it goes and gather again if you can. We talk if because they are about 20% more likely to break after each use, so we recommend using one and sticking in that direction for a while before using your next one for testing. see if you’ve gotten past it or need to navigate instead of throwing them away and finish.
They will eventually lead you to Stronghold, which will be underground, so look for a moment when your eyes are floating to the ground to see when to dig. Tap your way until you break into the rock structure. After you find it, take a moment to turn around and place your seed nearby just in case. After all, you are about to confront a dragon.
The stronghold is a bit confusing but has some loot inside as well. Resist the urge to just walk through the walls in search of a portal, though, because lots of bricks contain silver fish waiting to ambush you. Once you find the portal – and you will know it when you see it – check the bracelet above the lava lake. There are 12 slots here that need to be filled with Eyes of Ender (so why you should create at least 12), but each has about a 10% chance you already have eyes in it. If you’re lucky, you can get two or three there to make up for any bad luck with you being broken when you use them to find the Citadel. When all the slots have been filled, a black starry port will appear.
This is your irreversible point. Once through this portal, you cannot leave The End without dying or killing the Ender Dragon, so you should only jump in when you are physically and mentally prepared.
How to kill Ender Dragon
Finally, you have come to the end. You will be born on a small platform off the main island, safe in this moment. Use whatever materials you bring with you to make a bridge cross and climb to the surface. The Ender Dragon will fly around and its health bar will appear at the top of your screen. Keep an eye on him to avoid accidentally staring at the countless Endermens wandering the arena.
Before you release your arrows, look out for the massive obsidian towers surrounding the area. Stones with End Crystals sit on top, some inside a protective cage – you can see a beam shot at the dragon whenever it approaches the dragon. Those beams healed the dragon, so retrieving the crystals was a top priority. The good news is that these crystals break off with just a hit from anything (an arrow or a swing of a sword will do), but they are easier to explode than a block of TNT, so keep your distance when breaking break them.
A good strategy is to target the nearest tower and snipe it with an arrow from the ground if it is not protected or start building it to break the cage. Once you have dealt with that one, quickly scan the others and shoot out whatever you can while you are aloft, and make a note of the others with cages you need to climb. This is where your buckets of water come in. The dragon obviously won’t leave you alone in all of this. He will try to knock you away from the towers by crashing into you or covering the ground in purple fire dealing damage. If you start to fall or are ready to rush down in a hurry, switch to your bucket and drop the water just before hitting the ground to eliminate any fall damage. It can be complicated, but dying is one of the most common ways of dying in this war.
Once all of the crystals are destroyed, the Ender Dragon adds a new behavior to his cycle and periodically “lands” on what looks like an altar made of original stone in the middle of the island. This is your chance to do massive damage with your melee weapon, but watch out for his purple breath attack. Most of the time, he will cling to the air, so now is the time to shoot the rest of the arrows that you had previously stockpiled. Note that the arrow cannot hurt the dragon when it lands, only swords or other melee weapons, so if you stay too far away when it happens, don’t bother wasting ammo.
Keep moving, heal regularly, and avoid bringing any Endermen in the fight to finally take down this monster. When his HP drops to 0, the dragon will fly above the central altar and explode into a rain of XP orbs, activating the central gate and leaving an egg where it sits in battle. When you enter the portal, a very strange chain of credit will be generated that we will not spoil and you will be banished from your world.
Can you fight the Ender Dragon again?
Now that you’ve completed all the material gathering, weapon preparation, searching and activating the End Gate, it would be a waste if you had to start a whole new world just to experience combat. with Ender Dragon for the second time. Thankfully, there’s a way you can summon him back in the second half, or as many times as you want, but it’s not cheap.
What you need is 28 glass blocks, add 4 Eyes of Ender and 4 Ghast Tears. Craft these together and you can create four new Final Crystals. Bring them back through the End Gate you found, and place each new crystal on the four sides of the portal that leads back to the underworld. Once all four are placed, stay back as they will explode, the portal will stop deactivated, the original crystals on the towers will revive and the Ender Dragon will return to face you again. . Good luck!
