With the release date fast approaching, Nintendo has released another trailer for Metroid Dread. However, unlike previous looks at the game, this trailer isn’t quite action-packed. Instead, it’s for longtime fans of the Metroid franchise. Packed with lore and plot for Awe, the game’s latest trailer serves as an explanation of why Samus is headed for the EMMI-infested planet.
inside intro video, it is revealed that the whole reason for Samus’ latest adventure was a sighting of the X Parasites, creatures Samus apparently destroyed in the Game Boy Advance title Metroid Fusion. However, they somehow survived and are now a threat to all life in the universe. The X parasite, for those unaware, kills and assimilates other life forms to spread. It does not discriminate and treats the entire universe as an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The trailer goes on to reveal that the EMMI robots hunt Samus Metroid Dread was first sent to the planet to investigate but then disappeared. If EMMI bots were sent in to track down and kill the X Parasites right in front of their eyes, that might explain why they’re hunting Samus. Before that, she was infected with a parasite, which was only cured by the Galactic Federation using DNA from Metroid. While she was cured, her DNA was also altered to include Metroid DNA. However, it is possible that some parts of the X Parasite are still alive within her and continue to activate EMMI.
Metroid Dread is currently set to release on October 8 for the Nintendo Switch.
