After mysteriously disappearing for a year, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga got attention this year Gamescom’s opening night live show with news about a new trailer and a release window. The game, which allows players to explore the entire Star Wars franchise through Lego, is due out in the spring of 2022.
Trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga also quickly set it apart from other Lego Star Wars games. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will instead go for a much more cinematic and realistic approach, while preserving some of the franchise’s innate qualities, such as its goofy sense of humour.
Players will take on the roles of the main, and at some custom point, characters throughout the game. Unlike previous installments, the characters will also be voiced, so the game’s story will actually be told rather than simply expressed. Combat in the game also seems to have been improved, with players now able to precisely aim and hide when using laser weapons. Light combat will also have a bit more depth.
However, the biggest change shown in the trailer is the addition of a galaxy map. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems to be open world to some extent. The menu shown in the trailer includes various planets from the Star Wars universe such as Geonosis, Tatooine, and Kamino, all of which the player can travel to at will. Once on a planet, players will seemingly be able to explore realistic environments, all of which are Lego versions of the franchise’s iconic characters.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is currently set to launch this coming spring for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
