Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope Coming soon to Nintendo Switch. The announcement was leaked early, ahead of Ubisoft’s E3 Forward live stream, after a website of the game went live, and it was later confirmed during the live stream. Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope will be released in 2022.
The game is a sequel to Mario Kingdom + Rabbids Battle, was released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. Sparks of hope is a turn-based strategy game XCOM with the flair and aesthetic of Super Mario and the Rabbids series.
The game’s trailer shows Mario with Luigi, Peach, and Rabbid Peach, once again entering the world of the Rabbids. However, this time they are exploring the galaxy to save Sparks, a merger between the Lunas and the Rabbids.
The game will feature nine characters, including Mario, Rabbids Peach and Luigi. It looks like Rabbid Rosalina will also be joining the lineup, and it looks like Bowser is playable as well. There’s also a brand new Rabbid featured in key art, who has green hair and a sword reminiscent of Cloud’s buster sword from the Final Fantasy series.
Super Mario Galaxy seems to be somewhat of the inspiration behind the game. The plot sets the stage for a sci-fi adventure: “Rescue adorable Sparks across the galaxy, who provide unique powers that will help you in battle.” Players will be fighting a powerful villain known as Cursa, and although little is known, the developers have promised that he will be unlike any other villain that Mario or Rabbids fought.
Players will explore space and jump from planet to planet. Mario and his crew can explore a seaside town and some sort of ancient ruins. The plot description notes that players will take down new bosses and familiar enemies.
