Warner Bros games. reveal it on the fighter genre platform today with a trailer for MultiVersus. It pits iconic WB characters, from Batman to Tom and Jerry, against each other in Smash Bros-style brawls. The game, which will include cross-play, will launch next year and will be free to play.
MultiVersus will emphasize social cooperative or duel gameplay as it is often called in other platform fighters. In duels, two teams of two compete against each other, with the first team often combining complex combos. MulitVersus is trying to deepen that topic by having the characters move towards teammates first. For example, Batman can throw a smoke bomb to obscure his allies, and Steven Universe can throw his shield to protect his teammates. It’s a complete difference from Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, was released earlier this year and is geared towards competitive solo play.
As a free game, MultiVersus will also be continuously updated. Current roster of games, including Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Arya Stark and Adventure TimeFinn and Jake’s will grow as the game becomes supported post-launch. Surprisingly, the game also features some of the most recognizable names in the dub portraying their roles. John DiMaggio returns to voice the dog Jake, and Kevin Conroy reprises his role of Batman in the game.
It looks like players will be able to customize their character’s move set to some extent. The trailer mentions perks for a character, which appear to be interchangeable.
MultiVersus is set to release sometime in 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
