OtterBox is expanding its gaming lineup with a new Power Swap Controller Battery designed for Xbox controllers. The rechargeable pack includes its first reserve cell to prevent the controller from suddenly dying in the middle of a match.
Best known for phone cases, OtterBox expanded into gaming at this year’s CES with a product line built around Xbox controllers. While it’s primarily tools made with cloud gaming in mind, the newest addition to its portfolio is an innovative powerhouse solution for Xbox players.
The Power Swap Controller Battery is a standard screw-in rechargeable battery pack. Players insert a spare battery into their Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One controller, which never has to be removed after installation because it draws power from the battery pack. When the battery runs out, the reserve cell becomes active and gives the player an extra 30 seconds of juice.
This tool is intended to prevent controllers from dying completely, provides a window for battery swapping, and eliminates the need for resynchronization. This handy tool features a quick hot-swap design that allows for a seamless transfer of packets in and out. These packs will also emit a light on the player’s hand when the battery is low. The battery pack itself provides up to 10 hours of playtime.
Power Swap Controller Batteries will be available for $60 through the end OtterBox’s website starting June 15. The package comes with two batteries as well as a charging base and mounting cage.
