Naughty Dog’s latest masterpiece, The Last of Us Part II, is an extremely violent game. Without going into vandalism, it’s a story of revenge in which the main character, Ellie, is able to brutally destroy an enemy that stands in her way. However, not all of them are human. Some are infected organisms mutated with a strain of Cordyceps fungus. While you probably won’t feel bad killing those enemies, you may want to avoid getting rid of the different dogs you come across.
Enemy ferocious dogs have been featured in video games before, but they are especially practical in The Last of Us Part II, makes it harder to justify killing them, even if they are attacking you. Fortunately, you don’t really have to kill the dogs you come across. It’s a stealthy game anyway, so you can get sneaky on them if you know what you’re doing.
In this guide we will show you how to avoid murderous dogs in The Last of Us Part II, along with other tips you should know.

How to sneak up dogs
Let’s face it – we’ve been killing other people in video games ever since this vehicle was born. That’s why we don’t really keep an eye until we’re tasked with taking them out, even in a realistic game like Finally ours Part II. However, give us the option to do the same with dogs, and that’s another story. The good news is that you can avoid killing all the dogs in the game, not except for one. Unfortunately, there is an interaction not to be missed with an early dog in which you have to complete an event in no time to bring it out. This might be too much for some to handle – and understandable so.
However, if you can get past that, every dog after that can be avoided. Dogs act similarly to humans and are infected, in that you have to be quiet to avoid them. However, dogs are capable of monitoring your scent, so just being quiet is not enough. You have to distract them. You should always carry a bottle or a brick so that it can be collected around the world. If you see a dog and its owner, throw a brick or bottle at them, but do not throw it at them.
This is important because the idea is to distract them, not draw them to your side. If you throw an object that you hit a dog or a person, they will be alerted to your location, which is not what you want. Instead, aim for the area around them, especially away from your destination. As long as you stay hidden and keep your distance while throwing, the dogs won’t follow you.
It’s important to know that you can press and hold R1 To enter listening mode, this mode highlights nearby enemies. It also reveals your scent, as indicated by a path leading from the dog to Ellie. You will want to constantly check for this while your dog is in range to see if he or she is with you.
Sometimes it is inevitable to warn a dog by mistake. If this happens, you have several options. The easiest thing to do is restart the checkpoint. The Last of Us Part II using the autosave system saves relatively often, so going back a few minutes isn’t a big deal. You can do this from the pause menu. Another thing you can do if you accidentally get your dog’s attention is just run. Even so, this method might be much more difficult to do than you expect, depending on the layout of the area.
If you’re lucky, you can run to your target without being stopped by the enemy, but many times, this is not possible. If the dog comes near you you need to hit L1 to dodge, though timing the intense battle can be difficult. We’ve found that climbing into a car or other furniture or equipment can be helpful, as you can use that to avoid the dogs while still catching other enemies. Again, whether or not this is possible depends on your position in relation to your goals.
If a dog grabs you, you will need to crush square button to get rid of it. Depending on your health at the beginning of the interaction, you may not survive, so make sure your health is always full against large groups of enemies.
