The PlayStation 5’s dramatic visuals are about to get even better with the inclusion of a Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). In one blog post on the subject, PlayStation has announced that they will be rolling out VRR support to some PlayStation 5 games in the next few weeks. VRR patches will automatically update supported games as long as the user has a reliable internet connection and the PC monitor or TV is compatible with HDMI 2.1 VRR.
What’s good about VRR? As Hankx World descriptionit basically makes the dashboard to be speed
setter for the game’s visual output instead of your screen. A monitor can have a capacity of 60 frames per second (fps), but if the game is not properly synced to the monitor, visible “tears” (also known as frame drops or defects). similar visual defects) may appear. However, unless the TV or PC monitor is HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible, it won’t work with PlayStation 5 VRR settings as expected.
“[VRR] Enhance visual performance for PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual elements, such as frame rate issues and screen tearing. Gameplay in many PS5 titles feels smoother because scenes are rendered seamlessly, graphics look sharper, and input lag is minimized,” the PlayStation 5 blog describes.
PlayStation did not specify exactly when VRR patches will be rolled out for supported games. All it says are changes to come in the “coming weeks”. The games below are the only games listed with VRR support so far, but others may be upgraded with VRR support or released with VRR support in the future. VRR support starts rolling out this week.
The PlayStation 5 versions of these games will receive VRR patches in the near future:
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Fate 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- God come down
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Midgard Tribe
PlayStation 5 owners can also try enabling VRR for unsupported games. However, VRR will improve the graphics quality of those games to the extent that will be beaten. It can smooth out the experience or make it glitchy. The user can turn the setting on and off at will depending on the result.
