Niantic, developer of Pokémon Go, announced Pikmin Bloom, its newest AR game. The game was introduced earlier this year, but so far there have been few details. The game will be available on mobile devices in Australia and Singapore starting Tuesday, then on phones worldwide in the coming days. As Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom will be free to download, but there are few similarities between the two titles.
When Pokémon Go focus on competition and the classic “have to catch all” mentality of franchising, Pikmin Bloom inclined to explore and enjoy everyday life. Players will be able to interact with multiple Pikmins in AR as they walk throughout the day. The in-game map looks like Pokémon GoThe look and feel of it, but instead of finding gyms and Poké stops, players will plant Pikmins along the paths they’re on. Pikmin evolves into a flower based on the number of real-world steps the player has taken: The more they walk, the more flowers will grow. After the flowers have grown, the player can pick them to create even more Pikmins.
As Pikmin grows, they can collect items, costumes, and other paraphernalia that allow the player to grow even more flowers. Players will also be able to team up with others to create gardens and complete challenges. Goals, as expressed in game trailer, is to fill the (virtual) world with flowers, which can be done by growing them yourself and walking with your Pikmin.
At the end of each day, players can record what they did in the in-game log and look back at the memories they made while walking. The game will also track the total number of steps taken during play. It’s not quite the same as usual Pikmin game, but the great and widespread success of Pokémon Go hope to give flower a chance to find its player base.
Pikmin Bloom will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store starting November 2.
