Psychonauts 2 will launch in 2021, according to developer Double Fine. The studio tweeted that the long-awaited sequel is now in playable form and will finally come out this year.
Original Psychologist is a hit classic 3D platformer that first debuted in 2005. The sequel has been underway for almost a decade. News of the game has been sparse so far this year, but Double Fine has reaffirmed that it will launch in 2021, though an exact date has yet to be determined.
“And yes, Psychonauts 2 this year, ”tweeted Double Fine. “And yes, I mentioned that here and elsewhere for a while, but no, I can’t tell you when because someone from the COMPANY will arrange for a mysterious“ cactus accident ”. Hidden happened to me… But it’s true. It is playable. It is coming. “

Curiously, the tweet appeared on the same anniversary of the original game, which launched on April 19, 2005.
The news comes as a surprise considering the wave of delays that are currently hitting the video game industry. With many major releases completely shuffled by 2021, it seems Psychonauts 2 will eventually follow. There haven’t been many new updates on the title since last July, which seems like a bad sign in the current game landscape.
Psychonauts 2 is set to drop on Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S when it launches. Double Fine says the game will also be coming to “other platforms”, though it hasn’t confirmed which one yet. Studio owned by Microsoft, working under Xbox Game Studios.
