The Xbox Conference and Bethesda E3 2021 gave us more information about the highly anticipated sequel to Xbox One. Psychologist, aptly named Psychology 2. The conference showcased a trailer filled with the mind-bending world and familiar faces from the original game. The trailer ends with the reveal of the August 22 release date. Psychonauts 2 will be available on the Xbox series of consoles, PlayStation 4 and PC.
The trailer shows Raz, the protagonist of the first game, traveling to Motherload, Psychologist headquarters and discovers that the organization is at risk from an inside threat. We also see many new sensory-based worlds focusing on new characters and enemies to face. Tim Schaffer, the author of the series, promises that Psychonauts 2 will dive deeper into Raz’s backstory involving his family and the curse that befell them.
The trailer reveals that Censor’s nemesis is back, and it also showcases a flying power that allows Raz to roll over a thought bubble, giving him higher speed and jumping ability. New characters like the amoeba-like creature were briefly featured in the trailer, as were familiar faces like Milla and Dr. Loboto. New locations are also introduced, including a pinball level that you must traverse using the aforementioned flying power.
Pyschonauts 2 was originally announced in 2015, but it has been delayed several times. It was initially crowdfunded to try to get enough funding to start growing. With Double Fine, the game’s developers, now part of Xbox Game Studio, we finally have a confirmed release date for Psychonauts 2.
