Sony Bend Studio, the team behind Day by day, currently working on a new IP. It’s not yet known exactly what game it will be, but we’ve received a hint that it could have an open world.
This news came from PlayStation Worldwide Studios Head Hermen Hulst, as part of an interview about Official PlayStation Podcast, as well as a post on Blog PlayStation. A lot of things were discussed, including the delay of the next God of War game and the confirmation that it will arrive on PS4, along with Gran Turismo 7 and revealed that Bend Studio is in fact working on a new project.
About Sony Bend, Hulst said: “Bend Studio is working on a very exciting new IP that they are very, very passionate about. They’re building on the extensive open-world systems they’ve developed Day by day. So I’m really happy for Bend Studio.”
This is particularly exciting news as many of us aren’t sure what the future of Bend Studio will look like following the reveal that a Day by day The sequel has not been revealed by Sony. Despite Day by day sold significantly, which was not the hit Sony was hoping for compared to exclusives like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
During the discussion, Hulst also confirmed that the new IP is important to Sony. “IP is the lifeblood of the game,” says Hulst. “But IP is only one aspect of our strategy. Ultimately, I want PlayStation Studios to be bold, take risks.”
Considering Day by day ships in 2019, it’s unlikely we’ll see Bend Studio’s new game in 2021, but it could be released within the next few years.
