Square Enix has revealed two new titles, Chronicles of DioField and Valkyrie Elysium, to wrap up the Sony State of Play event on Wednesday. Both games will be released sometime in 2022.
Chronicles of DioField is a tactical RPG very reminiscent of fan favorites Final Fantasy Tactics. However, Chronicles of DioField boasts more modern 3D graphics than Final Fantasy Tactics’16-bit style. The trailer introduced some gameplay, as well as some story elements. One interesting takeaway from the trailer is that the game doesn’t have a grid-based movement system, but something more like the XCOM series.
Chronicles of DioField will be released this year on PS4 and PS5, and will also be available on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Steam systems. Release windows for these systems have not been confirmed.
To wrap up the State of Play rollout, Square Enix introduced Valkyrie Elysium, a new action RPG connected to the Valkyrie Records series. In the trailer, we saw hints of some of the rhythms of the story for Valkyrie Elysium, as well as some gameplay. It looks like players will be allowed to explore this fantasy world and perform combo-style attacks in real time. Valkyrie Elysium coming to PS4 and PS5 this year, as well as PC.
Two upcoming Square Enix games were also previously marked in the Play State. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin there is a new playable demo available now. We also got to see some new high-octane games from Forspoken. The trailer comes after a recent announcement that the game has been delayed to the end of the year.
