Nintendo’s E3 Direct event started not with a bang, but with a series of punches and kicks. During today’s conference, Nintendo revealed that Kazuya from Tekken will be the game’s next DLC warrior. With Kazuya’s revelation, there’s only one blank left to fill Super Smash Bros.list of.
Kazuya has been throughout the entire Tekken franchise, appearing in every thrift entry for Tekken 3. He joins the growing number of representatives from fighting games, including Ken and Ryu from Street fighter and Terry from Fatal Fury.
From the trailer shown today, Kazuya is a close-up and personal fighter, with a range of attacks to choose from from his appearances in Tekken. Many of his moves include multiple hits, leaving opponents seemingly with no chance of escaping. However, it also means that Kazuya will be extremely vulnerable if he misses one of these extended chain attacks.
Kazuya also has a demonic form, enhanced with power. While we don’t have any details, it’s safe to assume that when he’s in this state, his attacks deal more damage. It’s unclear how he achieved this form, but it may be similar to Sephiroph’s mechanic, where he transforms after reaching a certain percentage of damage.
A release date for Kazuya has yet to be revealed, but a presentation from Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai. was announced. The rollout will take place on June 28 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET, and will come with a full recap of Kazuya’s abilities and likely release date.
