A new long trailer for Splatoon 3 show in today Introducing Nintendo Direct gave a solid hint of what players can expect from the game’s eerie story. While it’s been hinted that Splatoon takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Earth, the third entry in the series will see the Inklings deal with a return to the world of mammals.
The game itself takes place in Splatsville, a metropolis bustling with Inklings. It’s also where players will battle each other in the game’s main multiplayer mode, Turf War. Like previous Splatoon games, two teams of four players compete against each other to cover as much ink as they can on the ground before time runs out. The team with the most territories is the winner.
Updating game mode, Splatoon 3 will include new ways for players to draw worlds, including a Star Wars Droideka-style mech, a bow and arrow that shoots paint, and a grappling hook that leaves paint wherever the user lands.
While the look that we have Splatoon 3Its multiplayer is very brief, our look at its single player story even more so. The trailer shows short segments of the Inklings venturing through their strange world, which is littered with human ruins like the heads of Easter Island. However, it is unclear exactly how players will progress through this mode.
Today’s Nintendo Direct pretty much stops there when it comes to new details for Splatoon 3. At the moment, it seems the game’s developer wants to keep it a secret. Players will just have to wait until another rollout closer to the game’s still-unannounced release date for more information.
Splatoon 3 currently has a 2022 release window.
