White House says combating ransomware attacks a ‘priority’
Last week, a number of small and medium-sized businesses were hit by a major cyber attack, which scared other companies around the world. The Biden administration says it is working to prevent further cyberattacks.
The rise of ransomware attacks was before the president took office, and that’s what he’s been prioritizing since Day 1 and asking his team to focus on where we can have an impact, how we can have an impact. How can we work better with the private sector and what we can do across the federal government to help address and mitigate ransomware attacks on our critical infrastructure and on a variety of institutions in the United States. And we’re continuing to strengthen our partnership with the private sector, which is an important part of best practices in ensuring we’re reducing the impact of, I should say, vulnerability. of private sector entities. But much more can be done, requiring interagency process and discussion to move those policies forward. The attack over the weekend underscored the need for companies and government agencies to focus on improving cybersecurity. And we’ve talked a bit before about the importance of private sector entities in enhancing their own cybersecurity, laying out the best practices recommended by the federal government in a time.
