The Avengers will probably show up at this year’s E3 – not what you’d expect. According to a leak about 2K .’s E3 plans posted on RedditFiraxis, the developer behind the XCOM franchise, is working on a turn-based game with Marvel characters.
According to the leak, the game from Firaxis is currently in development and codenamed CODA. The leaked source describes it as “XCOM with Marvel Heroes” and says that several “famous actors are voicing the characters.” All signs in this case point to Marvel’s Avengers, but given the scale of the Marvel universe, the characters could easily have come from the X-Men or the Fantastic Four.
Although all of these are rumors at the moment, the leak has gained a certain amount of credibility. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote on Twitter, “Yes, this 2K leak is real but I’m not sure it will all be at E3. Even so, can’t wait for Marvel XCOM. “
Along with a Marvel-themed XCOM title, the leak also details several other projects set up from this 2K E3. Gearbox is said to have another Borderlands game in the works, although it’s not another major entry in the series. Codenamed Daffodil, the game is a spin-off that will feature Tiny Tina as a featured character. The leak also claims that the name of the game could be “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands“which Trademark registered by Gearbox all the way back in 2020.
A new action game is also being worked on by a 2K-owned studio, but little is known about it. However, one of the leaker’s sources described it as “Cthulhu meets Saint’s Row,” and that should be enough to pique anyone’s interest.
Of course, these are all rumours and leaks and should be considered trash, regardless of reliability. Regardless, we won’t have to wait too long to find out if they’re true. Take-Two has its E3 showcase on June 14, and Gearbox has its own show on June 12.
