The long-awaited new trailer for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 was finally shown at today’s Nintendo Direct. Tons of new details have been revealed, though its plot and release date remain a complete mystery.
As in Wii’s Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Link has the ability to soar into the sky to traverse even larger areas. It’s clear that Ganon didn’t completely stop because of the Calamity, or something like it that reawakened Hyrule Castle, giving Link another mission.
New abilities have also been demonstrated such as a skill that allows Link to pierce solid matter, another that allows him to project fire from his dragon gauntlet, and a skill similar to pressure but with more power. forcefully repels the target object instantly.
It looks like sky travel could be the big focus of this title. Not only does it show Link gliding across the sky, but at the end of the trailer, the destructive power of Hyrule Castle has turned it into a floating island. Other floating islands and ruins are also shown, with Link standing in confusion. Nintendo notes that they have expanded the world of Hyrule with new skies.
Link also wears a new tunic and arm accessories, with the latter being his new source of power. This new arm could very well act as his new Shiekah Slate. Enemies like the giant Talus Stone have also been upgraded, proven to act as living bases for Bokoblins.
Nintendo hasn’t given a firm release date yet, but has announced that it’s aiming for a 2022 launch, leaving room for a delay if necessary.
